Club History
The club started as "Veterans" in 1985, with just the one team in men's reserve grade. The team was made up of players from all of the Gold Coast clubs, mostly 35 or older, hence the name.
In their inaugural year, the Veterans took home the premiership trophy.
Veterans Hockey Club grew in numbers and strength, adding teams in men's 1st and 3rd grades as well as women's teams across all grades. At this time the club also boasted over 100 juniors, ranging from under 6 to under 18.
In 1990, the club changed its name to Capri Cannons following the formation of the organisation at the council leased club house and field on the Isle of Capri.
In 2008 the generosity of major sponsor Southport Sharks AFC resulted in the club changing their identity from Capri Cannons and adopting the new moniker of Capri Sharks Hockey Club.
Success in the club has been achieved with inclusions by members in a variety of Queensland representative and Pan Pacific Masters teams.
The club has also achieved numerous successes in the Gold Coast competition with premiership wins in the men's division and also in the juniors.
In addition to our success on the field, the Capri Sharks Hockey Club is well known and respected in the hockey community for supplying a large number of umpires for the Gold Coast competition as well as coaches and managers for representative teams.
Currently the Capri Sharks play their competitions and also train at the Gold Coast Hockey Facility on Musgrave Avenue in Southport.
The Capri Sharks Hockey Club plans to take its history of achievements and development of the game of hockey on the Gold Coast well into the 21st century.
